NORTH READING — Every year, since 2009, North Reading holds a 5K run on Thanksgiving day.  This past Thanksgiving, 1,251 people participated in the North Reading Turkey Trot, with 925 completing the 5K while 326 completed the 1K “walk” event that participants were also given the option to run as well.

Runners competed in four main individual categories.  These consisted of Top 5K Male Finishers, Top 5K Female Finishers, Top Male Walk Finishers and Top Female Walk Finishers.

In the walk, the fifth place winner among male participants was 4-year-old Rory Gannon with a final time of 22:11.3 minutes.  In fourth place came Mike Arena with a time of 20:22.3, following 7-year-old Nathan Arena who completed the walk in 19:17.1 minutes, taking third.  Thomas Coughlin, 9, came in second with a time of 19:14.8 minutes.  First place in the walk among male participants was Jaxon Driscoll, a 7-year-old who completed the event in an impressive 17:23.2.

In the female division of the walk, fifth place went to Ipswich resident, Rebecca Cody, who completed the event in 21:43.4 minutes.  Fourth place went to 11-year-old Grace Dotolo who ran the 1K in 21:10.2 minutes.  Lillian Hoehn, 7, took third, running an impressive time of 20:25.5.  Reading resident Kate Grant completed the walk in 19:47.0, securing second.  The winner for the women in the walk was Kelsey Driscoll, 37, who completed the event with a time of 17:25.4.

5K TURKEY TROT MEN’S RESULTS

For men in the 5K, tenth place went to Brighton resident Daniel Coveney, who completed the race in 18:20.6 minutes, at a 5:55 pace.  In ninth place was Marc Capobianco who ran the event in 17:55.8 minutes, at a 5:48 pace, gaining first in the men’s 19-29 age division.

Eighth place for the men went to Marty Pierce, 18, with a time of 17:30.9 minutes, at a 5:39 pace, gaining first in his age division.  In seventh place was Boston resident Ryan Kenny, 45, in 17:15.6, a 5:35 pace, to gain third in his age division. In sixth place came Anthony Johnson, 41, with a time of 16:45.3 minutes and a pace of 5:25, gaining second place in the 39-49 men’s age division.

In fifth place was Michael Hemme, who completed the event in 16:35.4 minutes, at a 5:22 pace.  North Chelmsford resident Kenny Goodwin came in fourth place with a time of 16:28.2 minutes and a 5:19 pace, gaining third in his age division.  Third place went to Reading resident Daniel Princic, 45, who completed the race in 16:11.6 minutes and a pace of 5:14, gaining first in his age division.  In second place came Lexington resident Andrew Yatsuhashi, 25, who ran the race in 15:59.0 minutes at a 5:10 pace, gaining second in his age division.

The winner of the North Reading Turkey Trot for the men was Samuel Capobianco, 21, who was both the winner of his age division and the overall Turkey Trot winner.  He completed the race in 15:38.7 minutes at a 5:03 pace.

5K TURKEY TROT WOMEN’S RESULTS

In the women’s category, 10th place went to Brooklyn resident Kate Kolenik, 28, who completed the race in 23:00.2, at a 7:26 pace, coming third in her age division.  In ninth place, 14-year-old Paige Vant finished with a time of 22:48.9 and a 7:22 pace.  Adelyn Kelly, 15, finished just before Vant with a time of 22:47.8 and a pace of 7:22 as well, coming third in her age division. Kelly was a Cape Ann League All Star for the North Reading High School cross country team this past season.

Caitlin Emery, 14, came in seventh with a time of 22:20.4 at a pace of 7:13, coming second in her age division. Lynnfield resident, 13-year-old Avery Trippe, came in sixth just before Emery with a time of 22:18.2 at a pace of 7:12, and finishing second in her age division.

Fifth place went to Reading resident Joyce Chiang, 35, who completed the race in 22:05.6 minutes at a pace of 7:08, coming first in her age division.  In fourth place came 13-year-old Madison Duffy, with a time of 21:56.9 and an impressive pace of 7:05, making her the winner of her age division.

Third place went to Annalise Butler, 20, with a time of 21:21.4 and a pace of 6:54, gaining second in her age division. Quinlan (Quinnie) Kelly, cross country CAL All Star for North Reading High School, got second place, at only 16-years-old. She had a time of 21:04.5 and a pace of 6:48, gaining her first in her age division.  In first place, winning the Turkey Trot in the women’s category, came Haverhill resident Jenna Solimine, 26, with a time of 20:12.8 and a pace of 6:32. Solimine placed 31st overall and first in her age division with her impressive time.

The winning teams were also named.  In third place, came “Team Kelly,” with an average time of 23:17.7. This team consisted of Quinlan Kelly, Adelyn Kelly, Michael Kelly and Tracy Kelly. In second, came “Forza Capos” who had an average time of 21:20.89 and was made up of Samuel Capobianco, Marc Capobianco, Charlie Capobianco and Teddy Capobianco. In first place came “Bragodkelwen,” which included Kenny Goodwin, Mitchel Brady, Deirdre Kelly and Meaghan Bowen who had an average time of 20:56.15.

Overall, the Turkey Trot this year was a success, with people of all ages and all levels of competitiveness coming together to enjoy a time with friends and family in the fresh air before the Thanksgiving festivities begin.
