NORTH READING — After this summer’s weather, it comes as no surprise it rained for St. Theresa Parish’s fourth annual golf tournament. However, the rain did not dampen the spirits of the over 70 golfers who came and played in the pouring rain to support a great cause.

There was a positive vibe at the Hillview Golf Course on September 18 as everyone came together to have a fun and competitive morning of golf. The tournament raised over $20,000 and the funds will be used toward a much-needed new heating system for the rectory and offices.

Father Agustín Anda, parochial vicar at St. Theresa Parish as well as a golfer, started the morning with a prayer with an added plea for a turn in the weather. After the blessing, the golfers went off to their assigned holes for the 8 a.m. shotgun start.

Taking first place, a repeat of 2022, was the team of Nick Harron, Kevin Harron, Brian Lee and Pat Lee. Second place went to a first-year team from the Horseshoe Grille of Tyler Hammond, Brett Erikson, Jamie Ellis and Kurtis Gibbs. Third place was the veteran group of the “Three Amigos,” aka Mike Hennessey, Jim Kieran and Kevin Kieran.

All the golfers should be commended for braving the elements. Kudos to Golf Pro Chris Carter and the staff of the Hillview Golf Course for their assistance in executing a successful tournament in less-than-ideal conditions. From the moment the forecast turned, Carter and his crew were very accommodating and offered to do what was best for St. Theresa and the golfers.

After the tournament, golfers gathered at the parish hall for a delicious luncheon buffet, courtesy of the Horseshoe Grille. Everyone found out who took home the prizes, and bragging rights for a year. In addition to the announcement of the top three winning teams, prizes were awarded for the straightest drive to Colleen Crowley and Tim Fitzgerald; closest to the pin to Kathi Lee and Pat Lee; and longest drive: Colleen Crowley and Joe Bruno.

Lastly, St. Theresa’s would like to give a big thank you to the Cota Funeral Home for being a major sponsor of the event, as well as all of the tournament sponsors. See our ad in today’s edition of the North Reading Transcript for a listing of all the businesses that donated to the fourth annual golf tournament.

“Please consider supporting these businesses that support us! These are the people who give back to the community and we hope you will do the same for them. Without the sponsors, the tournament would not have been the success it was,” commented Michele Barrette, communications coordinator for the church.
