NORTH READING — The Spring Sports Awards Night at North Reading High School was the closing of not only another terrific spring season, but the culmination of a lot of hard work and effort from students athletes and coaches of all seasons.

The Spring Sports Awards were especially important to the class of 2018 who have the distinct honor of winning the Cape Ann League’s Hyland Award for winning percentage, grade point average and sportsmanship in each of their years at NRHS.

Female and male recipients were also announced for winners of the Nickolas Martinho best all-around athlete and the Lester Levey Scholar-Athlete award.

The female recipient of the Lester Levey Scholar-Athlete award was Meredith Griffin. A three-sport athlete, Griffin was a captain and Cape Ann League All-Star in girls’ soccer, indoor track and outdoor track. A member of National Honors Society, Griffin graduated with honors, tied for the most at NRHS with 12 varsity letters and will attend Colby College in the fall.

The male recipient of the Lester Levey Scholar-Athlete award was Nicholas Carpenter. Carpenter was a captain and CAL All League member in boys’ soccer and a captain of both the indoor and outdoor boys’ track and field teams. Carpenter, the Vice President of the Class of 2018 and a member of the National Honors Society, graduated with honors and eight varsity letters and will attend Northeastern University in the fall.

The female recipient of the Martinho Award for best All-Around Athlete was Juliette Nadeau. A captain and 2018 CAL All-League member in girls’ soccer, Nadeau is a three-sport athlete who earned all-state honors in soccer as well as track. She holds school records in indoor and outdoor track and is already considered one of the best three-sport athletes in the history of the school. Nadeau received nine varsity letters at NRHS and will continue her soccer career at Colby College.

The male recipient of the Martinho Award was Kevin Murphy. The captain of the boys’ hockey team, Murphy was a CAL All-League member and widely considered one of the best defenseman in the area. Murphy was also captain and CAL All-League for the NRHS boys’ lacrosse team. His success and talent matched his leadership capabilities in both sports, making him truly one of NR’s most elite all-around athletes in recent memory. Murphy graduated with eight varsity letters and will attend Bentley University in the fall.
