Making the switch to cleaner electricity is easier than you might think, and it can have a big impact on both the environment and your electric bills. Here are three strategies you can consider if you are interested in transitioning to more sustainable energy sources, and potentially saving money:
Increase your home’s energy efficiency. Simple changes such as switching to LED lighting or investing in Energy Star-certified products are great ways to lower energy consumption and cut down on waste.
Consider rooftop solar. This is often the most intuitive option for many homeowners, given the speed at which the industry is growing. By harnessing energy from the sun, you can reduce your reliance on unsustainable energy sources, which can often lead to cost savings. You can also tap the sun, or other renewable energy, by signing up for RMLD’s Solar Choice or Renewable Choice programs.
Install a heat pump. While they may seem like magic, heat pumps are a practical and sustainable way to heat and cool your home. By transferring heat from the air or ground (rather than generating it), they have become an energy- and potentially cost-saving alternative to traditional systems.
