THE SCOTTS sent shivers through trick-or-treaters and passersby in general with the contest’s creepiest homes.

NORTH READING — And the winners are…really scary.

The Flint Memorial Library and the North Reading Youth Services Department  held a Halloween contest to determine the most imaginative costumes and local homes. Costume winners are to receive $25 gift cards to the North Reading business of their choice, while home owners will get $50 gift cards.

There’s already a prize collector. Obviously wanting to be first in line, preschool level costume winner Donovan Hoxha requested — and received — a Walmart gift card.

Other winners in the eight categories were: the McCudden family (decorated home — judges’ favorite); the Scotts (decorated home — creepiest); the Hemingways (decorated home — overall); Riley and Bridget MacDonald (elementary level costume); Samantha and Jackie Magner (high school level costume); Ella Darling and Madeline D’Angelo (middle school level costume); and Lily and Charlie Cardew (baby level costume).

LILY AND CHARLIE CARDEW, posing as Cruella De Ville and one of the “101 Dalmatians,” took home baby level costume honors.

THE SCOTTS sent shivers through trick-or-treaters and passersby in general with the contest’s creepiest homes.

THESE SCARY creatures helped the McCuddens win the best decorated home (judges’ favorite) prize.

RILEY AND BRIDGET MacDONALD, a shark confronting a scuba diver, won for best elementary level costume.

THIS ISN’T graveyard humor — the cemetery scene helped the Hemingway family win for best decorated home (overall).
