NORTH READING — TOPSoccer is a modified version of the game of soccer designed to provide opportunities for children who have challenges that otherwise prevent them from participating in a traditional soccer program.
This program invites all athletes with special needs to develop both physically and emotionally, while providing opportunities for fun, fitness, and building self-esteem.
High school soccer players participate in the TOPS program as “Buddies.” A Buddy is partnered with each player, providing one-on-one assistance and enabling the player to participate at his or her desired level, using a recreational, leisurely approach to the game. Buddies facilitate modifications to the game to allow full participation and enjoyment for each child.
North Reading Youth Soccer is devoted to providing a constructive and accommodating soccer experience for children that have challenges – physical, cognitive, or otherwise – through TOPSoccer. This program has enjoyed great support from the community, the players, and their parents since its inception in 2015.
In addition to North Reading, TOPS players join NRYS from all over the region, including Reading, Andover, North Andover, Boxford, Burlington, Danvers, Lynnfield, Stoneham, Lawrence and Derry, N.H.
