U.S. Air Force veteran of Korean War; doted on his grandchildren

NORTH READING — Daniel L. O’Donnell, 85, of North Reading and formerly of South Weymouth, died Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Weymouth on January 1, 1933, he was the son of the late John J. and Celia (Sheehan) O’Donnell. He was a graduate Weymouth High School, Class of 1954, and Thayer Academy, Class of 1955. He attended the University of Miami and Boston University.

Daniel was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He served from 1951 to 1955. He was a district sales manager and plumbing and heating manufacturing sales representative. He worked for Crest-Good Manufacturing Company, Inc., Hat Crek and Sterling Brass.

Daniel was a devoted husband, loving father of four daughters, and a doting grandfather of five. He was an avid fisherman, reader of historical books and fanatical sports fan. He has been a resident of North Reading for the past 56 years and a member of St. Theresa’s Church.

He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Joan T. (Keefe) O’Donnell; loving father of Coleen Robbie and her husband Richard, Kerin Surner and her husband Brad, Tara O’Donnell and her husband Roger Donoghue, and Shannon Becker and her husband Al. He is also survived by his brother, Jack O’Donnell, and five cherished grandchildren, Caitlin, Richard and Nicholas Robbie, and Cecilia “CeCe” and Nicole “Coley” Becker.

His funeral was held from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading, on Tuesday, October 16 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter Street (Rte. 62), North Reading. Calling hours were held on Monday, October 15. Private burial will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
