Family meant the world to her

MERRIMAC — Diane N. (Nason) Griffin, 87, a longtime resident of Merrimac, formerly of Winchester and North Reading, passed on October 23, 2022 at Anna Jaques Hospital, after a period of declining health, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of 54 years to James Hunter Griffin, who passed on February 12, 2010.

Born in Winchester on July 10, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Paul E. and Margaret Josephine (Tarbell) Nason, and was a graduate of Winchester High School.

She loved her time on Plum Island camping with her children, painting watercolors, taking her dogs, Cooper and Scruffy, for walks on the beach, Woodsom Farm and Amesbury Park to watch the children play.

She enjoyed her garden, nature and sitting watching the hummingbirds. There was one summer she found some baby squirrels that had fallen from their nest. She bottle fed them until they were ready to be released. They returned every summer to proudly show off their babies.

Diane didn’t like the limelight. She’d rather sit back and watch everyone have a good time. At her 80th birthday party, she sure did shine. She glowed in the happiness of being surrounded by all who loved her, and that was many.

Most of her joy came from her family. They were her world. Watching her grand and great-grand babies grow and going to their events was always a proud affair. Her happiest time of all was the large family gatherings where she could spend time with all of them.

Her family will forever cherish the gift of her life and the everlasting, wonderful memories she created for her sons, Peter Stick and his wife Lisa, Mark H. Griffin and James R. Griffin; her daughters, Dawn L. Tremblay and her husband Lawrence, Laura J. Fransen and her husband Mark and Diana L. Sidilou and her husband Peter; her 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; her sister, Judith Johnson; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by her brother, Douglas Nason.

Services for the family will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to “Save a dog,” c/o MSPCA Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844 or an animal shelter of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are in the care of the Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Ave., Amesbury, MA 01913.
