NORTH READING — James J. (Jake) McCormack Sr., 81, of North Reading and formerly of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Jan. 12, 2021, due to complications resulting from advanced Parkinson’s Disease.
He was born in Revere on Nov. 22, 1939, the eldest son of the late James and Frances (Serino) McCormack.
Jake grew up in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School. He went into the steelworking/metal fabrication trade shortly after graduation to help support his mother and younger brothers after his father passed away unexpectedly at the age of 35.
After moving to North Reading, he went into business for himself.
Jake was an extremely generous and hardworking man. He worked long hours to provide for his family. He also could often be found in his shop helping a friend or stranger alike with a metal repair. He often would refuse payment from someone who was in a jam.
In his younger days, Jake enjoyed golfing. More recently, he was a firearms enthusiast and a longtime member of the Reading Rifle Club. Jake was a resident of North Reading for 56 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jacqueline, and his loving sons James and Joseph, both of North Reading. His grandchildren, whom he adored, Kailyn and Kyle McCormack, also of North Reading, also survive him. Jake was also predeceased by his brothers, Richard and John McCormack.
Due to current COVID-19 conditions as well as honoring Jake’s wishes, there are no calling hours. Interment will also be private. The family would like to thank all who have reached out to express condolences. Your thoughts and expressions of support have been greatly appreciated.
