A quiet man with a dry sense of humor

NORTH READING — James J. Sardina, at the age of 96, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 15, 2021.

James was born in Boston on January 28, 1925 to Frank and Anna (Visconti) Sardina. He was a Marine Corps veteran, serving two tours of duty during World War II.

In 1949, James married the light of his life, Joyce (Dumas) Sardina. They were blessed with six children. James was a quiet man with a dry sense of humor who dedicated his life to his family. A hardworking man who was employed by American Airlines for 42 years, he was a generous provider, often slipping “cigar” money into a loved one’s hands.

James enjoyed family dinners, celebrations and traveling. He was never known to turn down a Chivas, a piece of chocolate or the chance to ride the latest roller coaster. He was always available to help both family and neighbors due to the Golden Rule being his life’s motto. James truly relished his role as “Papa” and took great pride in both his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s accomplishments.

James was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Anna; his sisters Rita and Carmela and his brothers Charles and Joseph. In addition, his loving wife, Joyce; his infant son, Michael; and beloved daughter, Theresa went before him. James is survived by his son, Steven, son-in-law Raymond (Cloutier), daughters Michele Carlino (John), Janice Kindelan and Mary Ann Sutton (Edward). He was blessed with seven grandchildren: James and his wife, Amanda; David and his wife, Melissa; Stephany; Andrew and his wife, Colleen; Christopher and his wife, Stephanie; Victoria and her partner, Calvin; and Elijah; and six great-grandchildren: Jael, Lexie, Juliana, Emma, Riley and Avery.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 28 in Saint Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter St. (Rte. 62), North Reading. Burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation in memory of Theresa Cloutier.
