NORTH READING — As of Tuesday, May 12, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) has notified the town that there have been 170 cases of COVID-19 in North Reading to date, an increase of five new cases since Friday, May 8.

This number includes 107 residents (an increase of four from Friday) and 63 patients residing at or associated with Royal Meadow View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (an increase of one patient as of Friday).

Of the total positive cases, 70 people have recovered (up from 68 on Friday), and the Health Department continues to monitor 86 individuals. To date, 13 residents of the town with confirmed cases of COVID-19 have died, including 12 residents at or associated with Royal Meadow View. In addition, one resident suspected to have contracted the disease has also died. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased,” Town Administrator Michael Gilleberto said.

Going forward, to align with the state’s weekly reporting of community case levels statewide on Wednesdays, future updates regarding case information with the town will be released weekly on Thursdays, beginning this Thursday, May 14, Gilleberto said.

“Please note that the state’s numbers often include cases prior to notice having been sent to the town, and the numbers may not match,” he stated.
