BOSTON — The North Reading boys’ indoor track team showcased their talent and determination at the Cape Ann League (CAL) Championship Meet, finishing an impressive 3rd overall out of 10 teams with 62 points. Despite tough competition from Amesbury and Newburyport, the team’s outstanding performances in various events made them stand out.

North Reading’s success started on the straightaway with the 55 meter hurdle race. Both Nico Johnson and Daniil Baranetski displayed exceptional skills in the preliminaries, securing their spots in the finals. In the finals, both athletes delivered personal best performances, with Baranetski finishing in an impressive 4th place and Johnson in 6th.

Sophomores Leo Romanski and Otto Indelicato showcased their strength and technique in the Shot Put, securing the team valuable points. Romanski achieved a season best throw of 43’3″, earning him a well-deserved 2nd place finish. His outstanding performance also qualified him for the Division 5 championship next week. Indelicato, who had already qualified for the state meet, secured a commendable 3rd place finish.

Gavin Brady, a talented sophomore, continued to impress in the 600 meter run, securing a remarkable 2nd place finish. He achieved a personal best time of 1:25.47, showcasing his dedication and hard work.

In the 1000 meter run, senior captain Logan Lamont delivered a stellar performance, running a personal best time of 2:48.27. His impressive effort earned him a 4th place finish.

The team’s success extended to the long jump event, with juniors Kieran Miller and Tanner DuPriest showcasing their skills. Miller achieved a personal best jump of 20’11.5 inches, securing a 2nd place finish. Freshman Brendan Trentsch also had a strong showing, jumping an impressive 18’2″.

In the High Jump, sophomore Ben Cook displayed his talent, clearing a personal best height of 5’6″ and finishing in 4th place.

The team’s relay events were nothing short of spectacular. The 4×200 relay team made a remarkable comeback to secure a victory. Despite being in 2nd place going into the final two legs, senior Noah Schifano closed the gap and Gavin Brady finished the job in the anchor leg, leading the team to victory. Juniors Kieran Miller and Kaio Pancini also played crucial roles in this winning event.

In the 4×400 relay, the team consisting of Lamont, Ethan Quan, Torin Nickerson and Brady delivered a strong performance, finishing in 3rd place and ending the meet on a high note.

North Reading’s exceptional performance at the CAL Championship Meet is a testament to their hard work, dedication and talent. Congratulations to all the athletes for their outstanding achievements and best of luck to those who have qualified for the upcoming Division 5 championship.
