WAKEFIELD — Numerous motor vehicle accidents over the weekend kept both Police and the Fire Department on the move.

The driver of a 2008 Chevy Impala was cited for a stop sign violation after a collision with a 2007 BMW at Salem and New Salem streets late Friday afternoon. The BMW was traveling west on Salem Street at about 4:40 p.m. and was taking a left onto New Salem Street when the collision occurred. There were no reported injuries.

At about 6:40 p.m. p.m. on Friday a two-car accident occurred on Route 128 southbound near Exit 39. The Wakefield Fire Department responded as well as State Police. The occupants of one of the vehicles, minors age 14 and 16, were transported to Winchester Hospital because of their ages, although they did not appear to be seriously injured. The occupants of the other involved vehicle refused transport to the hospital.

At about 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, State Police, ambulances and the Wakefield Fire Department responded to the scene of a four-car, chain-reaction crash in the high-speed lane on Route 128 northbound near Exit 39. Lyons Ambulance transported a 17-year-old girl to Leahy Clinic with unspecified injuries. A mother and her son from one of the other vehicles were transported by Action Ambulance to Leahy. Four individuals from the other involved vehicles refused transport to the hospital. The Wakefield Fire Department remained on the scene until the vehicles were towed. State police are investigating.

Wakefield Police responded to another highway accident just after 2 p.m. involving a 2007 Volvo and a 2009 Chrysler van. One driver was transported to Leahy Clinic with back injuries. The other driver refused medical attention.

At about 3 p.m. on Saturday, Police and Fire responded to the area of Albion Street and West Park Drive for an accident involving a 2009 Mercury Marquis and a motorcycle. According to police, the car was entering Albion Street from West Park Drive when the collision occurred. The car driver was cited in connection with the crash. The motorcyclist suffered bruises and a possible leg fracture and was transported to Leahy Clinic.

A car struck a mail box and then a tree on Oak Street at about 10:30 Saturday night. One occupant was transported to the hospital. The driver will be summonsed to court for leaving the scene of an accident after causing property damage.

A 20-year-old Wakefield man will be summonsed to court after an assault that allegedly occurred at a Main Street Dunkin’ Donuts at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning. An argument between two men reportedly escalated and one of the men said he was punched in the face.
