A Melrose hockey alum who was a regular at the Melrose Elks

BILLERICA — Kevin Barry, 56, passed away on October 22, 2021 at Boston Medical Center after a prolonged battle with bladder cancer which spread to his brain. Kevin was born on July 7, 1965.

He attended Horace Mann Elementary School, as well as Melrose JR and SR High School graduating in 1983. During those years, Kevin loved his position on the hockey team, “hanging with his best buddies”, of whom there were many both on Elm Street, and around the city. And always was a regular at the Melrose Elks and worked in the heating\cooling Industry for most of his adult life.

Kevin met and married his estranged wife Diane (Carroll) Barry and lived in Billerica. Together, they had their son, Michael Kevin Barry. But he never forgot where he came from and could always be found back in Melrose. He is also survived by his sisters Donna Barry of Swampscott and Maureen Barry of Billerica; brother, Timothy Barry of Wakefield as well as his nephew and his wife Chris and Rachael (Brandano) Barry of Salem, MA; niece Lauren (Fitzpatrick) and her husband, Colby Newman, of Michigan as well as their son, Hudson. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert C. and Carol M. (Rackliffe) Barry. The Barry family wishes to thank Salem Hospital for finally diagnosing his health issue, and with the Boston Medical Center where he was transferred from Salem. The doctors, nurses, and aides treated Kev like one of their own, and that comfort warmed our hearts. In addition, we wish to thank everyone in the home where he was living, prior to his hospitalization. We thank Nicki, Steve, Wanda, Joanne, Deb, Tim and mostly, Luger his service dog. They were an inseparable pair.

Kevin will be interred in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose, with his parents. Services will be private per the request of the family. Any donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
