WAKEFIELD — The building in Greenwood that until the fall of 2013 was occupied by Melrose Paint and Decorating Center fetched $1.675 million when it was sold last week. The building was on the market for about a year before Sigma Property Solutions LLC bought it.
The passing of papers for the property, which comprises 16,000 square feet, was held on Wednesday, Jan. 28, and the sale was handled by Pondfield Commercial Group in Melrose. The company is co-owned by Jason Madden and Michael Chapin.
Sigma Property Solutions LLC, also called SigmaPro and currently operating at 26 New Salem St. provides an “innovative approach for commercial and residential renovation,” according to the company’s website.
SigmaPro has a portfolio that includes over 6,000 occupied apartment home renovations and over one million square feet of common area renovation. The company handles construction and maintenance-related services in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York.
Former owners of the 910 Main St. building, Nancy and Fred Pittenger, originally opened their paint and decorating store in Melrose in 1975 and in 1997 moved to the Greenwood location in Wakefield. They closed their doors at the end of November 2013 and have been realizing their dream of traveling to exotic locations ever since.
The building sits on one acre of land, some of it ledge, has two floors of space and enough parking to accommodate 17 cars.
Chapin said that the new owners will tailor the building according to their needs.
Pondfield Commercial handles the sale of approximately 12 commercial properties every year.
People from Wakefield, Melrose and surrounding communities depended on the Pittengers for many years to help pick out paint colors, wallpaper styles and other decorating items for their homes, said Nancy Pittenger.
The Pittengers could not be reached for comment on the sale but in a message dated Monday, Jan. 12, Nancy Pittenger said that she and her husband would be in a place some call “the jewel of the sea” — Bora Bora, Tahiti — when papers were passed and that the sale of the property would be their final business dealing.
