PEABODY — In their final game of the regular season on Feb. 21, the Peabody-Lynnfield-North Reading co-op girls’ hockey team was edged by guest Haverhill-Pentucket-North Andover, 2-1, at the McVann-O’Keefe Rink in Peabody.

With the non-league defeat, the Tanners ended the year at 16-4 while HPNA improved to 8-9-3.

This game was scoreless heading into the third period. Ava Buckley got the locals on the scoreboard 1:06 into the third on the power play. Daniella White assisted.

However, Mia Kmiec tied it assisted by Gabriele Locke and Quinn Bennett with 8:06 remaining and Paige Nottingham turned out to be the hero for the visitors scoring the game-winning goal with .6:34 remaining. Gabby Harty assisted.

The Tanners out-shot HPNR 31-23, as Tanner goalie Alyse Mutti made 21 saves.

The loss snapped the Tanners thee-game winning streak.

On Feb. 19, the Tanners shut out Bishop Fenwick, 5-0, also at home.

In the first period, Erin Dee scored assisted by Alexa Pepper and Ava Buckley with 3:08 remaining.

Then, after a scoreless second period, PLNR erupted for four goals in the third period.

Mia Lava got the scoring going 1:47 in assisted by Vanessa Steinmeyer.

With a five-on-three power play, Buckley made it 3-0 assisted by Pepper and Lava with 6:38 left in the game.

Maura Flaws made it 4-0 with 1:44 left assisted by Lava.

The final tally came 24 seconds left as Lynnfield’s Catie Kampersal lit the lamp assisted by Buckley and Pepper.

Mutti made 14 saves to record her seventh shutout of the season as PLNR out-shot the Crusaders 43-14.

This was the annual Carlin Cup game between the schools which the Tanners have won the past two years

On Feb. 17, the Tanners steamrolled host Medford-Malden, 7-0, at the LoConti Rink in an afternoon game.

With that victory, PLNR ended up at 15-1 in the Northeastern Hockey League as they are the league champions.

They also completed the season sweep with the win as they won the first match-up, 6-0, on Jan.15.

Buckley led the attack with two goals and two assists.

Lava, Pepper and Shirley Whitmore all had a goal and an assist, Abby McInerney and Eleni Spack had the two other Tanner goals.

Flaws tied Buckley in assists with two.

On Feb. 14, the Tanners posted another shutout win as they blanked guest Marblehead, 5-0.

That victory also gave PLNR a season sweep over the Lady Headers as they officially clinched the NHL title with the win.

Buckley led the offense in this game as well with a goal with two assists. Spack and Kampersal both had one goal and one assist.

Pepper and Whitmore both lit the lamp once.

Lava and Flaws matched Buckley with two assists each.

PLNR is the 9th seed in the MIAA Division 1 state tournament as they will host Winchester on Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. in a first round game.

The Red and Black, a team out of the Middlesex League, are the 24th-seed as they enter the game with a record of 9-9-2.

The winner will play the winner of No. 8 Pope Francis vs. No. 25 Arlington in the Sweet 16.
