Passionate about his career as a scientist

Peter-Connolly-Obit-webSCARBOROUGH, MAINE – Peter Connolly died Saturday, May 21, 2016 of glioblastoma. He was 64 years of age. He was born in Melrose, the son of the late Martin J. and Elizabeth P. Connolly.

Peter graduated from North Reading schools, Bates College, Northeastern University and Boston University. His employers included Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, Oregon Health Sciences University, Ciba Corning, Chiron, Bayer and Siemens. He recently retired from his position as Director of Research and Development, Companion Animals Division, at IDEXX in Westbrook, Maine.

Peter enjoyed gardening, classical music, theater and fine art. He was passionate about his career as a scientist and was beloved by his co–workers at IDEXX.

He is survived by his wife Sally (Coole) Connolly, two sons, Dean A. Connolly of Brooklyn, NY and Reid M. Connolly of Scarborough, two brothers, Paul R. Connolly of North Reading and his wife Evelyn, and Robert M. Connolly of Kittery, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Devon Evans of New England Cancer Specialists for his compassion and also Hospice of Southern Maine for their empathy and care at the end of Peter’s life.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 26 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland Maine. Donations may be made to the National Brain Tumor Society at braintumor.org.
