ON A BEAUTIFUL fall afternoon, Boy Scouts from Wakefield’s Troop 701 threw their backpacks on and climbed Parker Mountain in New Hampshire. In this photo, the scouts are standing in front of a massive cairn that marks the summit. A short distance away, the trail opens to a bare, rocky knoll with spectacular views of the lakes of central New Hampshire. The scouts made camp there and enjoyed an outdoor meal while watching the sunset. The crystal clear night allowed for spectacular stargazing; some of the scouts slept out under the stars while others pitched tents. After a hiker’s breakfast the scouts descended the mountain, leaving no trace of their presence in the wilderness.
