WAKEFIELD STUDENTS recently caught the attention of Mike Wolnik, president of Wakefield Co-operative Bank (wakefieldcoop.com), when it was announced they read over 10,000 books this past summer. Wolnik decided an official congratulations was in order, and pledged that the bank will donate $5,000 to the Wakefield school system to support the “bring your own device” initiative for students who may not be able to afford them. Announcement of the bank’s donation was made at Lake Quannapowitt on Saturday, September 13th, just before Superintendent of Schools Dr. Stephen Zrike, and Town Administrator Stephen P. Maio, held true to their promise of jumping into the lake (and Zrike shaving his head) if students achieved their summer reading goal.
