WAKEFIELD — Commander Thomas Collins of the Cpl. Harry E. Nelson American Legion Post 63 of Wakefield invites all, young and old, to attend the 2018 Flag Day Program in front of the WWII Memorial on the upper Veterans Memorial Common at
7 p.m. on Thursday, June 14.

The program includes a pause to say the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, a short talk on Flag Day, and the playing of some patriotic music. Following the short
program the members of Boy Scout Troop 701 will perform a Flag Retirement Program when old flags will be properly retired.

June 14 is Flag Day in the United States of America. It commemorates the 241st anniversary of the adoption of the flag on June 14, 1777 by the resolution of the second Continental Congress. June 14 is also the birthday of the US Army as Congress adopted the American continental army after reaching a consensus position of the Committee of the Whole on June 14, 1775.

Please join Commander Collins and his members at 7 p.m., June 14, in this most important Post program and the flag retirement that follows.
