WAKEFIELD — Police are investigating an apparent theft of power tools from Hart’s Hardware store early yesterday afternoon.

Police said that an employee of the store came to the police station at about 3:45 p.m. yesterday to report the incident.

The employee said that at about 12:30 p.m. yesterday, she observed a bald, white man enter the store wearing a heavy tan coat. She said that as the man went into the power tool aisle, she though it was odd that the man was wearing such a heavy coat in July. She said that a short time later, the man walked directly out of the store, possibly with something under his coat and went to a white van parked outside.

The man then came back into the store, according to the employee, placed something else under his coat and left again.

She said that she yelled that someone was stealing from the store and a customer was able to get a plate number for the white van.

Police said that they are in the process of identifying the suspect as Hart’s Hardware personnel work to determine exactly what was stolen.
