WAKEFIELD — In response to a citizen petition, Town Council, at their May 31 meeting, scheduled a special election for Tuesday, June 26 to allow voters to determine the question of the Public Safety Building project that was initially proposed and passed at the Annual Town Meeting on May 7. This Wednesday evening, June 6, from 8 to 9 p.m. there will be a live televised forum from WCAT’s Studio A to present all sides of the issue to residents. Producer David Watts, Jr. will be joined on the program by Wakefield Police Chief Richard Smith to field any and all questions and comments relevant to the proposed project.

“I believe that it is important that we provide as much information as possible on the Public Safety Building project to as wide an audience of Wakefield voters as we can in the three weeks until the special election,” said Watts. “This is especially an opportunity for those voters who were unable to participate in the initial discussion at Town Meeting and vote on Article 8.”

Wakefield voters are invited to participate in the forum with their questions and comments on any and all aspects of the proposed building project.

“Anyone, who would like to, may have a chance to speak on the program,” said Watts, “ I am hoping that we will hear, and discuss, a wide representation of views and opinions on Wednesday evening.”

The forum will be recablecast on WCAT’s government channel (Comcast – 22; Verizon – 42; RCN – 13) on a regular schedule through Monday, June 25, and will also be available on the WCAT YouTube channel.

Although authorized by the Wakefield Town Council, Wakefield Community Access Television is an independent not-for-profit organization funded by revenues from the franchise fees paid by Comcast, RCN and Verizon, who provide cable service to Wakefield. The media center does not receive any tax-based dollars from the Town of Wakefield and returns over $4 million in services and programming to the community each year.
