Lockwoodobit-webMALDEN — Raleigh B. “Peter” Lockwood, 86, of Malden, died at the Wingate at Melrose on Sept. 29.

Peter was born in Melrose, raised in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School, Class of 1947.

He resided in Foxboro for 27 years and Malden since 1980. After high school, Peter worked as a supervisor for the messengers and mailroom for American Mutual in Boston, in the Printing Department for the Foxboro Reporter and as a comp room supervisor for the Patriot Ledger in Quincy for 31 years before his retirement.

He was longtime member of the First Parish in Malden, Universalist, and the Sons of Civil War Vets.

Peter enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, country and jazz music and was on the library committee in Foxboro.

He was the beloved husband of Lois Jane (Croley) Lockwood for 36 years and the late Betty Squire Lockwood. He was the loving father of Lois R. DiGirolamo and her late husband Michael of East Boston and the late Lawrence S. Lockwood. He was the cherished grandfather of Barbara and Gina DiGirolamo and Melissa Lockwood. He was the great-grandfather of five great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Russell Lockwood and Ruth Lockwood Cook. Also survived by two nieces, three nephews and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

A funeral service will be held at the First Church in Malden, 184 Pleasant St., Malden on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.

Interment will be private.
