ralphstone-webWAKEFIELD — Ralph W. Stone Jr., 84, of Wakefield died on Sunday, Jan. 31 at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading.

Born in Marblehead on June 3, 1931, he was the son of the late Ralph and Beulah (Winslow) Stone.

Mr. Stone was a graduate of Marblehead High School, Class of 1949 and had attended Boston University for business administration and later graduated from Franklin Technical Institute of Boston majoring in Photography.

He served for four years in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict both stateside and in Japan. After marring his wife Cynthia in 1963, they settled in Wakefield where they raised their family. Mr. Stone worked for over 35 years with Braman, Dow & Company of Boston, retiring in 1994 as Vice President.

He had a very active life enjoying his favorite sports of tennis, sailing and skiing near their home in Waterville, N.H. Ralph and Cynthia loved to travel and were fortunate to have seen and enjoyed many highlights of the United States and Europe. Among his other interests were watercolor painting and music. He was a former member of the Wakefield Festival Chorus and the Reading Community singers. Mr. Stone had been the past president for 25 years of the Lakeside Cemetery Association.

He leaves his wife Cynthia A. (Wanstall) Stone, his daughter Kimberly A. Vilmunen and her husband Erik of Reading and was most proud of his two grandsons; Luke and Kurt. Mr. Stone was the brother of Norman Stone of Salem and Arlene Wheeler of Danvers. He was predeceased by his son Christopher W. Stone.

A Funeral Service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 21 Church St. in Winchester on Thursday at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield
on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.
Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
