WAKEFIED — William J. Renault, Jr. is Wakefield’s new Town Engineer, taking over the position after Michael Collins retired last summer. Collins had served as Town Engineer since 2002.

A resident of Middleton, Renault’s previous professional experience was in Concord, Mass, where he had been Town Engineer since 2008.

While in Concord, was involved with MassDOT’s Crosby Corner-Route 2 Reconstruction Project and completed three successful FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program applications for culvert repair projects in the Town, resulting in approximately $800K in federal grant funding. He oversaw the replacement of three culverts for the wetland system in Historic Sleepy Hollow Cemetery and managed streetscape improvements in West Concord.

He also Developed the Town of Concord Stormwater Regulations, managed the development of a new $4.1 million, four-bay maintenance facility for the Concord School Department and completed the replacement of traffic control devices for two intersections to improve intersection operations. He also developed the Town of Concord Traffic Calming Policy to address a growing list of resident requests for traffic and parking related improvements.

Prior to serving as Concord’s Town Engineer, Renault held the position of Public Works Engineer in that town and was involved in drainage design, roadway and sidewalk design and managed various roadway and bridge rehabilitation/replacement projects for inclusion in the TIP program.

Renault holds a degree in civil engineering from Northeastern University

When he’s not working, Renault coaches Middleton Girls Softball and enjoys playing recreational softball and hockey. He also plays bass guitar, electric and acoustic guitar, mandolin and Irish bouzouki in a local band.
