POCASSET — Richard D. Cerretani, of Pocasset, 84, died at home on Oct. 7.
Richard was born and raised in Wakefield and attended Wakefield Schools. He resided in Wakefield for 30 years, Melrose for 40 years and the past 10 years in Pocasset. Richard was a co-owner of Cerretani Supermarkets in Melrose, Revere and Reading, a former member of Bellevue Golf Club in Melrose and Hillview Golf Club in North Reading for many years and was part of the “Hole in One” club. He served his country in the National Guard for many years and was a member of the Bowling League in Pocasset. Richard was a gentle and easy going man who enjoyed traveling to Ireland, Las Vegas and Italy.
Richard was the beloved husband of Annie C. “Nancy” (Canavan) Cerretani for 63 years. He was the loving father of Mary McBride and her husband Joby of Lynnfield; Richard Cerretani and is wife Kathy of Florida; Ann McGreer of Alabama; Eileen Ventola and her husband Nick of Florida; Claire Choquette and her husband Chuck of Rhode Island and Sharon Cerretani of Melrose. He was the caring brother of John Cerretani of Stoneham; the late Orlando “Joe” Cerretani; Ralph Cerretani; Charles Cerretani; James Cerretani; Fannie Miller; Ruth Piccirilli and William Cerretani. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and family in Ireland and England.
Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose on Friday, Oct. 9. Richard’s funeral was held at the Gately Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 10, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
