U.S. Army veteran owned Simmons Real Estate

Richard-D.-Simmons_webSALEM — Richard D. Simmons, 95, of Salem, formerly of Lynnfield, died at his residence on August 2, 2017.

Richard was born in Fall River on May 20, 1922 and was the son of the late Richard and Florence (Taggart) Simmons.

Richard was raised in Winchendon and was a graduate of Murdock High School of Winchendon. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as First Lieutenant from 1943-1946. He was a longtime Lynnfield resident and owner of Simmons Real Estate and Simmons Associates Appraisal Firm of Lynnfield. He was a charter member of the Lynnfield Rotary Club and past president of the Massachusetts Board of Real Estate Appraisers. He was also the past president of the Eastern Middlesex Board of Realtors. He held the designation of CRE “Counselor of Real Estate” from the American Counselors of Real Estate and the MRA, a commercial designation conferred by the Massachusetts Board of Real Estate Appraisers.

Richard was the beloved husband of Miriam M. (Snow) Simmons. He was the loving father of Richard D. Simmons, Jr. and his partner Carol Roberts of Swampscott; and Carole S. Hamilton of Salem. He was the brother of Jean Peters of New Hampshire; and the late Frederick Simmons. He was the grandfather of David Hamilton and his wife Kimberly; and Amy C. Hamilton. He was the great grandfather of Sophie, Henry and Owen.

His funeral will be held in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 127 Summer St., Lynnfield on Saturday, August 12 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
