WAKEFIELD — Richard H. Burditt, 74, of Wakefield and the beloved husband of the late Elaine (Sullivan) Burditt, passed away peacefully at his home on July 5.

Born in Medford, he was the son of the late James W. and Dorothy (Hayes) Burditt.

Richard was raised in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School. He attended Northeastern University and completed coursework at Wentworth Institute of Technology.

He began his career as an assistant engineer with the City of Medford. He joined the MBTA as a resident engineer and worked there for over 28 years. He was most recently employed as an assistant project manager for the City of Cambridge.

He is survived by three children: Kerry of Melrose, Richard and his wife Kim of Wakefield and Heather Burditt Wade and her husband Scott, also of Wakefield. He was the devoted grandfather of Timothy Burditt, Julia Wade, Grace Wade, Kirbie and Reegan O’Brien. He was the brother of Willard and his wife Patricia of Reading, Paul and his wife Sheryle of Stoneham, Arlene Sullivan and her late husband Kevin of Texas.

Richard is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins and by his good friends Ron, Brendon, Michael, Billy, the Brown and Roberto families, and the late Timmy.

A funeral service will be held at McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
