U.S.M.C. veteran of Korean War

 

Hanson-Obit-webYARMOUTHPORT — Richard N. Hanson, 86, passed away peacefully at home on April 2. He was born in Melrose on Aug. 27, 1928.

Richard and his wife Louise have lived in Yarmouthport for the past 21 years. They would have been married 65 years this month. 

A former U.S. Marine in the Korean Conflict, he was a graduate of Wentworth Institute and Northeastern University. He was also a member of the North Reading Masonic Lodge AF&AM and the West Yarmouth Congregational Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Nancy and her husband Bill of North Reading and a son Douglas and his wife Lori of Sandown, N.H. as well as eight grandchildren and 10 great–grandchildren. 

He enjoyed golf, sailing and traveling, making origami birds (at the drop of a hat) sudoku and cribbage. His infectious laugh and easy manner was loved by all. He was the owner of a business for many years, Versatile Machine Co of North Andover. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 10, at 10 a.m. at Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill St., North Reading.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to either the Union Congregational Church or the West Yarmouth Congregational Church, 383 Main St., West Yarmouth MA 02673.
