Attorney, avid horseman and outdoorsman

LYNNFIELD – Attorney Richard Raymond O’Leary, 71, passed away Friday, January 8, 2016.

Born on September 27, 1944, he was the youngest son of Thomas F. O’Leary Sr. and Mary B. (Gore) O’Leary. He was predeceased by his parents and his only sister, Joan Marie O’Leary. He leaves his elder brother, Thomas F. O’Leary, M.D., of Lynnfield, with whom he resided; his elder brother, John R. O’Leary and his wife of Florida; several nephews and nieces; and a lifelong friend, attorney Stan Cohen.

He attended Boston Latin School, Tufts University, Boston College Law School and Boston University, acquiring a master’s degree in Taxation. He practiced law in Lowell for many years.

Mr. O’Leary was an active member of the Green Mountain Horse Association for many years with his horse, Sandpiper. He also was an active member of the Danvers Fish and Game Club.

His funeral was held from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn on Tuesday, January 12 at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 17 Grove St., Lynnfield. Interment followed in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Visiting hours were held on Monday at the the funeral home.
