Former resident was World War II veteran

BURLINGTON – Richard Alan Weadick Sr., a resident of Burlington for 55 years, passed away suddenly on February 5. He was 94 years old.

Richard was the devoted husband to his wife, Margaret, for 63 years. Richard was born in Boston, one of five sons born to the late James and Elvira Weadick. He grew up in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School. After the United States was forced into World War II, Richard enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of the 386th Service Squadron and 58th Service group and worked as an airplane and engine mechanic. He served for most of World War II and saw extensive action in New Guinea and Luzon. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon and Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Service Star. He was discharged several months after the end of WW II in 1945.

He returned home and met his future wife Margaret and they were married in 1951. They started their family in North Reading and then moved to Burlington. He worked for over 20 years at RCA in Burlington as an electronics technician. After his retirement, he worked as a real estate agent. Richard loved being active and on the go. He loved the outdoors, whether it was fishing or simply working around his yard. He was in a bowling and horseshoe league. He was a bit competitive and was club champion in Groton. His greatest achievement was his family. He had four sons and two daughters who in return blessed him with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was a hardworking man who loved his country and family and will be always remembered by those he touched in his 94 years.

Richard was the beloved husband of 63 years of Margaret T. (Bacon). He was the loving father of Richard A. Jr. and his wife Karen of Tyngsboro, Gary and his wife Paula of Wilmington, Paul and his wife Patswee of Burlington, Debra Rollins and her husband David of Ponce Inlet, FL, Donna Weadick and her husband Jeff Caira of Methuen and his son the late Bruce. He was the brother of the late James, Edward, John and George. He was the proud grandfather of Richard Weadick III, Erika Duarte, Kristle and Ashley Weadick, Erynn Holmes, Ryan Weadick, Jennifer and Kayla Rollins and Thanya Weadick. He was the great-grandfather of Emma, Andrew and Isabella Duarte, Ava and Keenan Weadick and Caleb  Holmes.

His funeral was held from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home on Tuesday, Feb. 19, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy Church in Burlington. Interment was in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Richard’s name may be made to People Helping People, P.O. Box 343, Burlington, MA. 01803.
