Registered nurse loved playing tennis 

ANDOVER — Rita Johnson Colombo, 92, of Andover, formerly Lynnfield, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024 at her son Robert’s home in Andover.

Born in Rutland, Vermont on Aug. 4, 1932, Rita was the daughter of the late George and Elsie (Hector) Johnson. 

Rita was a graduate of Proctor High School as member of the Class of 1950. She received her nursing degree from the University of Vermont in 1954 and began a rewarding career in nursing. She retired from her job as a registered nurse from the Floating Hospital in Boston. She was an avid tennis player and was active in her church’s bible study and choir. Above all, Rita loved taking care of her family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Frank V. Colombo. She was the loving mother of William L. Colombo and his wife, Karen, of Oakland, California; Robert G. Colombo and his wife, Lee, of Andover; and Peter F. Colombo and his wife, Debra, of Andover. She was the sister of Carolyn Miglorie of Vermont; and the late Norman Johnson. She was the adoring grandmother of Matthew, Justin, Daniel, Caroline, Jennifer, Scott and Hannah. She was the great-grandmother of Gemma. 

A Memorial Service will be held at the Faith Lutheran Church, 360 South Main St, Andover, on Friday, Sept. 6 at 11:30 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday, Sept. 5 from 4-7 p.m. A private interment for family will take place at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
