STONEHAM — Ronald “Basil” J. Doucette, 85, a longtime resident of Stoneham, died at home of cancer on September 25, 2018. He was the husband of Linda (Fellows) Doucette with whom he had shared 58 years of marriage. Born in Lynn and raised in Wakefield; he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Marion (LeBlanc) Doucette.

Following graduation from Wakefield High School, he served in the Navy, three years overseas in San Juan, Puerto Rico and a year in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. Mr. Doucette was an executive in the hotel industry.

For the last 53 years, Basil and Linda have resided in Stoneham where they raised their family. Basil was a phenomenal athlete and sports fan. He excelled as a baseball and hockey player and until recently enjoyed playing on a billiards team. He served as Coach and President of the Stoneham Youth Hockey and had been a very active member of the Stoneham Booster Club when his children attended Stoneham High School. He had been a most loyal fan at all of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.

He was the proud father of David Doucette and his wife Denise of Stoneham, Paul Doucette and his wife Diane of Groveland and Diana Doucette of Wilmington. He was the grandfather and #1 fan of seven grandsons; Paul, Nicholas, Michael, Benjamin, Adam, Will and the late Stephen and brother of David Doucette of Framingham, Marie McCarthy of Melrose and the late Roger and Joseph Doucette.

A memorial gathering will be held at Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, 4 Common St., Stoneham, Sunday, September 30 from 4-7 p.m. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Wyoming Cemetery, Sylvan St. Melrose.
