Rudolph-Bonaiuto-obit-webMELROSE — Rudolph P. “Rudy” Bonaiuto, of Melrose, died at home surrounded by his family on March 24, 2016 at the age of 79.

Rudy was born and raised in Malden and attended Malden schools. He resided in Malden for 30 years and Melrose for the past 48 years. Rudy worked as a bricklayer for the Local No. 3 in Charlestown for over 40 years before his retirement. He loved hunting, fishing, skeet shooting, cooking, family gatherings, playing bocce with friends and climbing the grease pole at the St. Anthony’s feast in Malden. Rudy was an avid boater and enjoyed traveling with his wife to St. Martin, Bermuda, New Hampshire, New York, Maine and Florida.

He was the beloved husband of Dorothy M. (Rogers) Bonaiuto for 58 years. He was the devoted son of the late Sam and Mary (Nicholson) Bonaiuto. He was the loving father of Virginia M. Walker and her husband Robert of Salem, N.H., Donna J. Foster of Melrose and Paul V. Bonaiuto and his wife Shelley of Chelmsford. He was the cherished grandfather of James, Christopher, Derek, Ashley, Robert, Nicholas and Allie. He was the caring brother of Marie Byrne of Medford, Lucille Zannino of Peabody and the late Salvatore Bonaiuto and Dolores Martin. He is also survived by many special nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, on Monday, March 28. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home was held Tuesday, March 29, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church, Herbert Street, Melrose. Burial will be private.
