LEXINGTON — The Wakefield Middlesex Senior Babe Ruth Townies returned to action after nearly two weeks and it defeated Lexington/Bedford on Sunday night at Lexington High School by a 2-1 tally.
The Townies received seven strong innings from Dylan Melanson. Melanson allowed only three hits and two walks while striking out seven for the complete game victory.
Wakefield was a little rusty at the plate having not played in 12 days, as it was only able to muster four hits of its own.
Wakefield scored one in the first after Zach Kane led off with a single and Anthony Cecere doubled to score Kane.
Both teams were quiet until the sixth inning.
Kevin Murray reached on an error and Dave Holman singled to put runners at first and second. Murray eventually scored following two wild pitches to make it 2-0.
Lexington scored its only run in the last of the seventh after a lead off double and an RBI single with one out. Melanson wrapped it up with two ground ball outs to earn his first victory of the season.
Wakefield now stands at 4-2 and will play the Arlington Cardinals tonight at Spy Pond in Arlington at 5:45 p.m. The Townies baseball program would like to thank its sponsors, The Dockside Restaurant, Honey Dew Donuts and the Wakefield Co-operative Bank.
