WAKEFIELD — A two-car crash in the area of 68 Oak Street just after 6:30 p.m. on Friday sent the driver of at least one of the cars to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital and two children to Mass. General Hospital. Police, Fire and Action Ambulance all responded to what was initially misreported as a tree-car accident.

Police said that a 1998 Honda Civic driven by a Wakefield man drove into the rear of a 2012 Jeep Patriot driven by a Burlington man. The children were reportedly in the Honda.

The Fire Department reported that when they arrived all occupants were out of the vehicles. The injuries to the children did not appear to be serious, according to the Fire Department. Firefighters spread absorbent to soak up spilled vehicle fluids and swept up debris from the roadway. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

At about 12:45 p.m. on Friday, police and firefighters responded to a crash at Main and Greenwood streets where a 2010 Chevy Equinox struck a 2011 International container truck. There were no reported injuries, but the SUV had to be towed. Firefighters used absorbent to soak up vehicle fluids and swept up debris in the roadway.

A man walked into the police station at about 4:30 p.m. on Friday to report vandalism to his 2014 Jeep Cherokee as it was parked on Water Street. The man said that he parked and went into a business. When he came out, he found scratches on his car that appeared to have been deliberately made, according to police.

At about 6:45 p.m. on Friday, a caller reported witnessing a man attempting to use an ATM card that was left in the machine at the Bank of America on Smith Street. The man was described as a white male, between 20 and 30 years old, about 5 foot 10 inches tall, wearing a Red Sox cap with a white “B,” a red hoodie and jeans. Police said that Bank of America security was contacted and the card cancelled.

Police responded to a crash on North Avenue near the Reading line just after noon on Saturday. According to police, a 2007 Mazda CX7 had been stopped at the red light at the Route 128 entrance ramp. When the light turned green the driver proceeded straight ahead at the same time as a 2013 Mazda CX9 attempted to turn left onto the highway ramp, resulting in the collision. The driver of the CX9 was cited for failure to yield.

A 26-year-old Saugus man will be summonsed to court for unlicensed driving after he crashed the 2007 Volkswagen Jetta he was driving into a pole on Nahant Street at about 7:45 p.m. on Saturday. The driver reportedly told police that a tire blew out and caused the crash. The Fire Department also responded and said that neither the driver nor his 3-year-old passenger were taken to the hospital. The Municipal Gas and Light Department was summoned to check on the pole.

At about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, police, firefighters and Action Ambulance responded to a local address for a man who had overdosed. Narcan was administered to the man and he was taken to the hospital. The woman who reported the overdose was also taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for unspecified reasons.

At about 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, a man reported being bitten by a dog on Audubon Road. It was unclear who the owner of the dog was. The man declined transport to the hospital for the minor bite, saying that he may seek attention later.

The Fire Department responded to 34 calls over the weekend, 23 of which were for medical aid.

At about 8:30 last night, firefighters were called to Foundry Street for a report of an oil truck on fire. They extinguished a small fire in the battery compartment that had not spread beyond that area. The owner of the truck was notified.
