MELROSE — Over 50 members of the Melrose YMCA Shark team qualified and competed in the 2016 YMCA East Districts held from Feb. 5-7 at the Kennedy Pool in Somerville.

It was another successful appearance for the Sharks, who medaled and finished with a number of top 10 performances. Those who earned medals include: Todd Tringale, who placed second in the 100 back (1:03.32) and 50 free (24.60); Calvin Yee, second in the 500 free (5:43.61); Julia Ho, second in the 50 fly (32.94),

Those who placed in the top 10 include: Todd Tringale: sixth in the 100 free (56.14); Calvin Yee: fifth in the 100 back (1:06.30) and sixth in the 200 IM (2:23.27); Sean Kay: fifth in the 100 fly (1:05.53) and 200 IM (2:22.02); Julia Ho: fifth in the 100 free (1:10.15) and 100 IM (1:16.68); Adam Ho: fourth in 100 free (1:10.15), 50 back (37.71) and 100 IM (1:19.89); Ben Fiesel: 7th in 50 free (24.16); Rowan Emerson: 10th in the 100 breast (1:07.49); Amelia Doetsch: 10th in 25 back (22.18); Emma Wright: 10th in 100 breast (1:17.40) and Isabelle Achab: fourth in the 500 free (5:45.91), 7th in 100 fly (1:07.14).

Cracking the top 20 included swimmers in various age groups: Chloe Gentile, 13th in both the 50 back and 50 free; Casey Duggan: 17th in 50 back; Mac Doucette: 17th in 50 fly; Catherine Curry: 14th in 50 free 15th in 50 back ; Cleverina Cong: 16th in 100 breast; Cameron Dunn: 15th in 100 free and 13th in 100 fly; Keiran Dunn 19th in 100 free, 14th in 200 free and 15th in 50 back ; Amelia Doetsch: 11th in 50 free and 13th in 25 free; Isabelle Achab: 12th in 50 free; Isabel Bates: 15th in 500 free; Hollis Cohan: 14th in 500 free; Ben Fiesel: 18th in 200 free, 15th in 100 fly; Marianna Kay: 16th in 25 fly; Sean Kay: 16th in 100 free; Gwyneth Kirby: 17th in 50 free and 11th in 50 back; Brian Nguyen: 11th in 100 free and 50 back; Alva Ronn: 17th in 500 free and Christopher Terranova: 15th in 200 free.

Next up is the 2016 YMCA New England Finals which run from March 12-20 at M.I.T. in Cambridge. As of press time, 20 Sharks will compete among the region’s best. Swimming individually will be: (Seniors) Isabelle Achab, Keirnan Dunn, Rowan Emerson, Ben Fiesel, Sean Kay, Gwen Kirby, Todd Tringale, Emma Wright, Sam Foley, Calvin Yee; Juniors Mac Doucette, Cameron Dunn, Chloe Gentile, Adam Ho, Julia Ho, Brian Nguyen and sophomore Marianne Kay. They will be joined in relay by Amelia Doestch, Ella Thomey, Paige Kelly, Casey Duggan, Cecilia Kay and Noelle L’Heureux.
