Former Hilltop Nursery School director

ROWLEY — Shirley I. (Gigliotti) Brown, 92, of Rowley, formerly of Lynnfield and Reading, passed away on May 17, 2024 at the Masconomet Healthcare Center in Topsfield.

Shirley was born in Stoneham, Massachusetts on Feb. 5, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Alice (Thibeau) Gigliotti.

Shirley worked for the Hilltop Nursery School in North Reading as a teacher then as director for over 30 years. She also owned and operated her own store, Woolgathering, in Reading for several years where she also taught needlepoint. Shirley was a longtime member of St. Maria Goretti Church in Lynnfield. She was the past president of the Lynnfield Couples Club and was also a member of the Spotlighters of Lynnfield. She also belonged to a bridge club and a book club

Shirley was the beloved wife of the late Paul A. Brown.  She was the devoted mother of Wendy A. Richard of Ipswich; Susan L. Laier of Parsonsfield, Maine; and Kevin P. Brown of Rowley.  She was the loving grandmother of seven and loving great grandmother of 14.

Shirley’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Maria Goretti Church 112 Chestnut St. in Lynnfield on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 10 a.m.  Burial will follow at the Annunciation Cemetery in Danvers.  There will be no visiting hours.
