WAKEFIELD — Shirley M. Martino, 96, of Wakefield died peacefully on February 10, 2019 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Wakefield on May 4, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Wesley S. and Elsie H. (Steindorf) Rutledge.

Shirley was a lifelong Wakefield resident and a graduate of Wakefield High School Class of 1940. She was a retired bookkeeper and had worked for several firms including Transitron Electronic Corp., and Defiance Printed Circuit Corp. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, cards, and was an enthusiastic participant in a bridge club and several Bible study groups. A person of great faith, Shirley was very active locally in Women’s Aglow Fellowship, and also traveled to conferences throughout the Northeast. Back in 1982 she attended eight weeks of witness training to help volunteer for Billy Graham’s largest New England campaign covering numerous college campuses and cities over a three month period. She was also a witness volunteer for the 700 Club. Shirley was a congregant of The Shepherd’s House church of Woburn.

Shirley was the beloved wife of the late Dominic P. Martino. She was the loving mother of Robert Martino and his wife Carolyn of Georgetown, Ronald Martino and his wife Pamela of Wakefield, Richard Martino and his wife Kathleen of Wakefield and Candace McInerney of Lynn. She was the sister of the late Wesley, Robert and Floyd Rutledge. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held in the First Parish Congregational Church, 1 Church St., Wakefield on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday prior to the service from 9 to 11 a.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
