WAKEFIELD — The Warrior softball team suffered no lingering effects from its non-league loss to Methuen on Monday. In fact it was right back to business as Wakefield cruised to a 13-4 triumph over Wilmington on Wednesday morning at Vets’ Field.

Wakefield increased its record to 6-1 on the year and continues to roll over teams from the Middlesex League Freedom division.

Alexi Truesdale started the game for the Warriors and pitched four innings giving up four runs (all earned) while striking out five batters and walking four.

Senior Amanda Boulter hurled the last three innings of relief and earned the victory. Boulter gave up no runs on one hit while striking out five and walking one.

At the plate, senior Emma Kraus continued her torrid hitting as she went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, three RBIs and three stolen bases.

Also two freshmen, Vanessa Kaddaras and Meghan Gibbons, got their first varsity hits.

The Warriors had a good game against the Wildcats but Melrose beat Burlington 10-6 on Wednesday. Coach Rick Quattrocchi felt that his team was going to see what it was made of when it faced Melrose this morning at Vets’ Field.

Before the Methuen loss, the Warriors defeated Woburn by a 13-5 score last Saturday at Library Park.

Kraus and Meghan Burnett each had three hits to lead Wakefield which had 15 hits.

Boulter went the distance for Wakefield to earn the victory, while Tanner hurler Brianna Lundin went seven innings for Woburn and struck out five.

Woburn got three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Tanners scored two more runs in the second inning to give the home team a 5-0 lead.

But the Warriors didn’t give up and got two runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead. In the fourth, Kraus walked and was tripled home by Nicole Gasdia. Gasdia scored on an error. In the fifth, Nicole Catino, Burnettt, and Boulter all singled. Kraus reached on a fielder’s choice and and error which allowed two runs to score. Truesdale and Hayley Kaddaras both singled as the Warriors took the lead.

Wakefield broke the game open in the seventh inning as it plated seven more runs. Wakefield had run scoring hits by Olivia Dziadyk, Catino and Burnett which highlighted the big inning.

After the Melrose game today, the Warriors take on Burlington on Monday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. at Marvin Field.
