LYNNFIELD — The volleyball team is only two wins away from qualifying for the Division 3 North state tournament after the Pioneers compiled a 2-1 record last week.

The Pioneers (8-4) defeated Masconomet 3-0 on Oct. 8. The Chieftains are currently in first place in the Cape Ann League with a 10-2 record. Masco’s only league loss this fall was to Lynnfield.

Lynnfield won the first set 25-17. The Pioneers cruised to a 25-18 victory during the second set. The locals prevailed 25-18 during the third set.

Junior Katie Nugent led the Pioneers with nine kills and nine digs. Junior Olivia Pascucci had eight kills, nine digs and two aces. Senior captain Jessica Dwyer had 12 digs.

Senior Shannon Ryan had 13 assists, four digs and an ace. Junior Rebecca Albanese had seven digs. Senior captain Mary Kate Deighan had four kills. Junior Jessica Badger had three kills and one dig.

Defeats Pope John

The Pioneers defeated Pope John 3-0 on Oct. 6.

Lynnfield won the first set 25-7. The Pioneers won the second set 25-12. The locals pulled out a 25-8 victory during the third set.

Loss to Arlington Catholic

The Pioneers began last week falling 3-0 to Arlington Catholic Oct. 5.

The Cougars narrowly won the first set 25-20. Arlington Catholic pulled out a 25-19 victory during the second set. The Cougars secured a 25-18 victory during the third set.

Upcoming games

The Pioneers faced North Reading on Tuesday, Oct. 13, taking place after deadline. The locals travel to Hamilton-Wenham on Thursday, Oct. 15. The Pioneers host North Andover on Monday, Oct. 19.
