READING — Stella M. Zitzow, 95, of Reading, formerly of Wakefield, died Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Peregrine Assisted Living in Tewksbury.

Born in Wakefield on September 2, 1923 she was the daughter of the late John and Annie (Pankowska) Procurot.

Mrs. Zitzow was raised in Wakefield and had been a longtime resident of Reading. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was the past owner of Zitzow’s Neighborhood Store in Reading. She had a passion for her Polish ancestry and could often be found trying to encourage the people in her life to learn Polish words. She also enjoyed collecting pocketbooks and had a love of bowling and Bingo. Mrs. Zitzow was very selfless and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. She also had a contagious sense of humor and loved to make people laugh.

She was the beloved wife of the late William A. Zitzow. She was the loving mother of Warren A. Zitzow of New Hampshire, Cheryl Burrows of Reading, Paula Silva and her husband Daniel of Salisbury, Ann L. Zitzow of Salisbury, and the late William A. Zitzow, Margaret Zitzow, and Mary Stella King. She was the sister of Dorothy Collins of N.H. and the late John, William, Leo, Stephen, and Tony Procurot. She is also survived by her many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment to follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham.
