Warrior defensive coordinator for four seasons promoted

WAKEFIELD — Wakefield Memorial High School announced its new varsity head football coach and that is Steve Cummings. Cummings has been tabbed to replace Mike Boyages who retired last fall after 18 seasons.

Cummings has served as the defensive coordinator for the Warriors for the past four seasons and previously was the freshmen head coach leading the Warriors to undefeated record of 9-0 in the 2010 season.

In addition to coaching at the high school level in Sharon and Canton, Cummings served as a captain on his Framingham State College football team in 2000 and won a Super Bowl championship as a high school player in Division 3B.

Cummings took over the Warrior freshman team in 2008 after coaching linebackers and receivers at Canton High School and Sharon High School. Before coaching at the high school level, Cummings coached the offensive line at Framingham State College in 2001, his alma matter where he played football from 1996-01.

Cummings is on the faculty at Wakefield Memorial High School in the Math Department.
