WAKEFIELD — A 19-year-old Stoneham man was arrested on multiple charges last night following a foot chase after a traffic stop at Water and Del Carmine streets.

Sgt. Geoffrey Eriksen was on patrol on Water Street at about 9:30 p.m. when he observed a blue Ford Mustang take a left turn out of Vernon Street at a high rate of speed. Eriksen also observed smoke coming from the vehicle’s hood. He eventually stopped the vehicle on Water Street near Del Carmine Street, where he observed what appeared to be fresh damage to the car’s left side.

Eriksen began talking to the driver identified as Michael Foley of 53 Forest St. in Stoneham. During the conversation, Foley took off on foot toward Fernald Field. After a foot chase, Eriksen and Officer Michael Ryan were able to catch up to Foley and take him into custody.

Foley was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license, operating at a speed greater than reasonable, negligent operation and resisting arrest. He was also charged with equipment violations.
