McCulloughobit-webMALDEN – Susan Jean McCullough, wife of Richard Gomes for the past 45 years, died unexpectedly at her Malden home on Monday, Jan. 11. She was 67.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of late George and Mary (Mulligan) McCullough. Raised and educated in Wakefield, she was a graduate of Wakefield High School and UMass Amherst.

She moved to Florida for eight years to care for her father until his passing. She moved to Malden two years ago and resided with her son, Matthew Gomes.

A retired social worker and supervisor, Susan was employed by the Mass. Department of Transitional Assistance in Taunton and Waltham for many years. Susan attended healing Masses of the Congregation of the Sacred Stigmata and transported others in need of a ride to the Masses.

In addition to her husband and son, she leaves a stepson, Richard Gomes of Raynham; a stepdaughter, Maribeth Ferreira of Taunton, and seven step grandchildren. She was also the sister to the late George, Lawrence and Ann Marie McCullough.

Services will be held at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Sunday, Jan. 17, at 2:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. The family will be receiving visitors from 1 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the services.

Her funeral will held from the funeral home on Monday, Jan. 18, at 12:30 p.m. followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Taunton at 1 p.m. www.silvafuneralhome.com.
