WAKEFIELD — It’s officially a tradition. Again this year, Wakefield’s Holiday Stroll on Saturday, Dec. 6 will feature a Festival of Trees.
This event continues to grow. Last year, dozens of trees delighted more than a 1,000 visitors. This year’s event promises to be even larger. Register early.
The Boys and Girls Club is looking for donated trees from charities, businesses, athletic or academic teams of any kind. Trees can come from families, friends, clubs, churches, civic or Scouting groups. It is a great group activity, sure to get participants in the holiday spirit. You can dedicate a tree to a loved one, a cause or to promote a business or product. Trees must be artificial, no shorter than four feet and no higher than six feet tall. Trees can be traditional or creative. They can be any color or theme. Originality is encouraged.
Tree decorating will take place at the Club in the Americal Civic Center on Friday, Dec. 5 between 6 and 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 6 between noon and 2 p.m. You bring the tree, the lights and the decorations. Your group can decorate on site. Holiday music and a festive environment will be provided as inspiration.
The tree display will be open to visitors during the Holiday Stroll on Dec. 6 from 3 until 7 p.m. Admission to the event is free. Tickets are $1 per chance. Visitors put their tickets in a box next to their favorite tree, in an attempt to win that tree. Raffles will be pulled when the Stroll ends. Winners will be contacted and must pick up trees between noon and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7. To participate, please e-mail wakefieldfestoftrees@gmail.com or call 339-203-2515. Event volunteers as well as tree decorator-donors are needed.
