MELROSE — Thomas A. Erickson, 72, a resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

Thomas was born in Boston on Feb. 12, 1942, one of three children of the late Frank and Louise (Baretta) Erickson. Raised and educated in East Boston, he received an honorable discharge for his service in the United States Air Force.

Tom was an iron worker for several years and later worked as a TV repairman for many years. He lived in East Boston where he met his wife of 50 years; Everett for 20 years and Melrose for the last 20 years.

Tom’s needs in life were simple. He loved eating, especially Elaine’s home-cooked Italian food. He also loved watching football and was a big New England Patriots fan.

Perhaps most of all was his love of gambling. An avid gambler for much of his life, he found great joy through the excitement of horse racing. Tom spent hours researching and reading to spot the best horses. His dedication and love for the sport often turned luck on his side. But most of all, he loved the excitement and thrill of going to the track, wearing his favorite scally cap and placing a couple of bets. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

Tom was the beloved husband of Elaine (Theodore) Erickson with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Lisa J. Marino of Melrose and Sheryle Rogato and her husband David of Billerica. He was the dear brother of Corinne St. Laurent of Revere and Ellen Modica of Chelsea. He was the cherished grandfather of Michael Marino of Melrose and Domenic, Karissa and Carmine Rogato, all of Billerica. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends gathered at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose during visiting hours on Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again for his funeral service on Thursday at 10 a.m.

Interment with military honors by the U.S. Air Force in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
