LYNNFIELD — Three Lynnfield High volleyball players received postseason honors from the Cape Ann League coaches.

Ella Gizmunt was named the CAL Baker Division co-MVP along with Ipswich’s Grace Sorensen. Gizmunt was a CAL First-Team All-Star all four years of her stellar career.

The senior outside hitter finished the year with 419 kills, which makes it two years in a row now that she has had over 400 kills. She now holds the record for second most kills in the state of Massachusetts. The only person with more was Riley James from Barnstable.

“If Ella’s sophomore year wasn’t cut short (covid pandemic), she probably would have beaten (James’) record,” said Pioneers head coach Brent Munroe, as Gizmunt was the league MVP last year as well.

Gizmunt’s serving game also dramatically improved with 120 service aces. She was also one of only two athletes named to the AVCA All-American list and was an MAVCA All-State athlete.

Senior setter, Celia Carbone, made the CAL First-Team All-Stars for the second consecutive year.

Carbone, a three-year varsity athlete, also passed the 1,000 assist mark, making her only the second athlete to accomplish that in Lynnfield history. The senior finished her career with 1,047 assists.

“Celia was our lone setter this year after she shared setting last year,” pointed out Ashley. “She did an incredible job.”

Giuliana Guarracino also made the CAL First-Team All-Stars as it is the senior’s first postseason appearance.

Guarracino led the team in digs with 283, as she finished with 510 digs for her career. The outside hitter also had 209 kills.

“She was a gritty go-to player for us this year and she did a great job with her passing and defense,” said Ashley.

For the second year in a row, the Pioneers reached the Division 4 state semifinals as they lost, 3-1, to Joseph Case back on Nov. 15.

With that loss, the wnd-seeded Pioneers ended the year at 20-4. In the league, they ended up at 13-3 as they finished in 2nd place in the CAL Baker behind Ipswich, who gave Lynnfield two of their three losses and won the Div. 4 state crown for the second year in a row.
