WAKEFIELD — It’s that time of year for ghouls, ghosts and costumes and the Town of Wakefield, in collaboration with Wakefield Merchants and the Wakefield-Lynnfield Chamber of Commerce, are sponsoring a series of public events to celebrate the season and all are invited.
It began with local families decorating lampposts along Albion Street – Wakefield’s nascent Arts District – last Sunday afternoon with cornstalks and various other items. Organized by Laura Marie Small of Kidcasso Arts Studio and AnnMarie Gallivan of Create Artisan Studio, each family sponsored a lamppost and was provided with the materials to decorate it with.
Haunted Happenings kicks things off the celebration on Thursday, Oct. 27, beginning with the annual Fright Night Halloween Festival downtown. From 6 to 8 p.m., Wakefield Memorial High School art students will be displaying their pumpkin carving skills on the steps of the Lucius Beebe Library. Always an impressive display of candlelit creativity. At 4:30 p.m. and at 7 p.m., WMHS TV is sponsoring Halloween movies at the Galvin Middle School’s Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium.
There is a $5 admission to each movie.
The festivities will conclude on Sunday, Oct. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. with a Halloween festival located in three of Wakefield’s shopping districts — Albion Street, Main Street (downtown) and Main Street (Greenwood).
Enjoy free entertainment and activities including a haunted train ride, face painters, balloon artists, juggler, magician, arts & crafts, bouncy house, games, treasure hunt, pumpkin beer sampling (21+), “Zen Zone” and so much more including trick or treating, of course.
For everyone’s safety, Albion Street and Main Street (downtown) will be closed to traffic. For more detailed event information, please visit the event website at https://wakefieldmasites.wixsite.com/hauntedhappenings.
