LYNNFIELD — Tonight’s weekly Rotary Club Concert on the Common has been postponed to Thursday, July 16 due to the poor weather forecast and, more importantly, because of the sudden and unexpected passing of 10–year–old Benjamin “Sonny” Tropeano of Lynnfield this past Monday evening.

The community is invited to attend the concert, which will be followed by a special candlelight vigil in tribute to Sonny. The tribute is being planned by the Lynnfield Rotary Club; Rev. Dr. Dennis Bailey, who is the pastor of the Centre Congregational Church; and the evening’s featured performer, Katrina Gustafson and her band.

“Unfortunately, Lynnfield is no stranger to tragedy striking our youth in the past several years. However, the community has always come together when the need arises,” commented Rotary Club member Bob Priestley.

The concert will run as scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. and will be followed by the tribute to Sonny. The candlelight ceremony will include prayers, a small balloon release, a song to be sung by Gustafson, and possibly a few words by a family member or representative.

According to Priestley, Rev. Bailey has been in close contact with Sonny’s family, who are grateful for and in support of this tribute.

“The entire community will be welcomed to participate,” Priestley said, adding, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Tropeano family during this difficult time.”
